I left this anniversary styled shoot at Olympia’s Valley Estate a better person! Truly, between photographing the amazing dinner and dessert set, meeting, learning about, and photographing this sweet and amazing couple, and then seeing the whole shoot come to life with this beautiful video…I am reminded yet again just how incredible my job really is!
Months ago, I reached out to Natalie Mack, who is a stellar florist that I have had the chance to work with in the past. I really wanted the chance to shoot at OVE by doing something fun and unique! My first thought was a styled elopement, but Natalie had this amazing idea to showcase a couple who’s love and dedication to marriage had just celebrated 60 years! 60!!! I was so excited with that, and we ran with it.
The other idea was to really make this have an organic, farm to table feel. All the florals you see here are sourced from Natalie’s garden! Seriously, I have a hard enough time keeping the 2 plants in my studio alive; and here you go…look at HER bounty!
Natalie wrote this amazing entry, and I couldn’t have said it better myself-
We so often design for couples at the very start of their journey together – on the happiest day of their lives. But what happens next? Leila and Floyd are a real-life example of lasting love….60 years later and they’ve still got the flirts to prove it. Leila and Floyd met in a small town in the Midwest and quickly fell head over heels for one another. Floyd served as a medic in the army, and their family and travels brought them to Sonoma County California nearly 40 years ago. They’ve spent the years since then in the same home, raising their kids and enjoying their grandkids, surrounded by fruit trees, flowers and a lifetime of love. Leila’s sweet smile and warmth, Floyd’s quick wit and twinkly eyes, and their mutual heart for loving others well is truly infectious. Theirs is the type of home where you can never leave empty handed and where you always want to return.
Stephanie Hopkins Photography, Mack Floral Design, Beloved Bakery, Emelina.co and Janea Greene Creative had the honor and privilege to celebrate alongside the couple at the picturesque Olympia’s Valley Estate for their casual picnic anniversary shoot. Leila and Floyd felt right at home on the family owned farm and event venue in Petaluma, CA. Being avid gardeners and longtime nursery owners themselves, they value working with their hands and appreciate colorful celebrations that are reflective of the seasons.
All the flowers featured in the shoot were sourced from Natalie of Mack Floral Design’s home cutting garden. The heart shaped hand pies were baked with love by the couple’s granddaughter, Hollie of Beloved Bakery – whose pastry business specializes in organic and naturally flavored desserts for weddings and events. Christina of Emelina.co beautifully styled the picnic’s produce, dripping honeycomb across the best of summer’s bounty. Stephanie Hopkins Photography and Janea Greene Creative gracefully captured the couple- check out the images and video below to see how sweet summer love can be!
** Update! We are SO honored to have this shoot featured on Pretty My Party!
